Series: When God Comes To Church
There are times when believers can no longer be passive. When the tide of evil rises, we can and must take a stand...

It's not always popular to be seen taking a stand. But when God comes in unusual power to a church, we often see courage and resolve that was not there before. Today, how the ancient church in Thessalonica took their stand, and how we can imitate them today as darkness settles over our land.

Everybody likes a servant. We all enjoy being waited on. But not many of us like being the ones doing the waiting...

Servants have to serve even when those they serve don't appreciate it. They know that God watches their service, and is pleased. A church that serves is a church where God's presence is felt very strongly. That's a lesson we're taking home from our current study on revival.

"Taking care of number one" is how most people set their priorities. It's unusual when people give others first place...

That's what happens in a church experiencing the direct moving of God in their midst. A desire to serve others rises to the top, as it did in ancient Thessalonica. Paul commended this church for their service, and today, we'll learn the lessons they learned so long ago.

The church in Thessalonica underwent persecution, but nonetheless exhibited the joy of the Lord despite their trials. That's what happens when God's presence is very real, as it is during times of revival. Today: a further look at a church when God "shows up."

History records several great awakenings in Europe and America, and there's no doubt we could use another one now. What are the indications that God is making His presence known in an unusual way? Today, we begin a series from one of Paul's epistles that tells us what they are.

Many marriages begin happily, but then descend into conflict as husband and wife display the latent rebellion that's marked every human since that first couple. Today: how to apply God's solution to man's deepest problem, and heal broken relationships. Stay with us.

Endangered species: some environmental activists fret about the fate of the snail darter, or, perhaps the spotted owl. But the real endangered species is the family. Fractured, broken, stressed, dysfunctional...all these words describe a crisis in the most basic unit of society...a crisis that begins when marriages fail. Today: a candid look at the causes of these failures.

Anyone who thinks that marriage is the magic door to happiness might want to note that fully half of all marriages fail today. The resulting carnage of divorce and shattered families leaves a trail of dysfunction for generations. God intended marriage to develop character, not just fulfill sensual desire. Those who opt out of their marriages miss many rewards. Today: what those rewards are.

Walk down the aisle, say "I do," cut the cake, toss the bouquet. Marriage: it's the way to happiness...or, is it? There's good evidence in the Bible that marriage is designed more to develop character than to insure a lifetime of bliss. When the rough spots come, and they will, what are couples to take from those experiences? Today: a frank dose of married reality.

Many marriages are on shaky ground. Some see their mates like car models - trade them in when a better one comes along. The underlying issue is covetousness...wanting what you don't have. The Bible has clear directions for making marriages last, and today, we'll see why living a life of love, purity and honor is the only way to insure a long and satisfying marriage.

In the old days, it was said, "his word is as good as his bond." A handshake and a promise was all it took to seal the deal. These days, when a marriage breaks up, we have pre-nuptual agreements to divvy up the loot. Few take seriously the covenant they enter into when they tie the knot and exchange the rings. Today: back to basics, and why marriage, in God's eyes, is a lifetime deal, come what may.

Even among Christians, a marriage today has 50-50 odds of succeeding. Now, it's "split up" when the going gets tough. Wanda and Gustav Lutzer bucked the trend by celebrating 76 years of marriage in Canada. Their fifth child is Dr. Erwin Lutzer, who tells their story again on today's program, listing five principles that kept his parents together through thick and thin.

The scientific method involves experimentation and the validation of results. When it comes to creation, this won't work. There's no way to re-enact the moment of creation. Science must give way to faith, and that troubles many. The issue of evolution has carved a great divide between those who believe the Bible and those who scorn it. Today: questions and answers on a theory that really can't hold water.

The first people had a perfect place to live and no one to argue with, except each other. Somehow, temptation and sin ended the paradise of Adam and Eve. As the serpent whispered, the grass seemed greener. Today: more on what happened to two people who are the parents of us all.

For Darwin's followers, there was no Eden. Primitive man rose up by pure chance from the primieval slime, and, here we are. The Bible gives an account with no chances. God hand-made the first human man and woman, and gave them a place to live with a mandate to serve Him as custodians of the earth. While the world celebrates Darwin's theories, believers know that it was God, not chance, that brought male and female together.

Evolution's biggest problem? The first millisecond of the Big Bang. How did anything come out of absolutely nothing? For most under evolution's sway, the evidence and facts do not matter. Their objection is more moral than scientific. If there is a God, He's an inconvenient truth, and so, He must go. Today we'll see why He isn't going anywhere, and why His creation is ample evidence of a genius Designer.

Evolutionists have a tough sell. It's one thing to say life developed by chance. It's another to say how it all started. Untold quadrillions of stars, planets and galaxies all argue that a Designer put them there. Pure chance can't create anything...something had to set it all in motion. Today, a look at the virtual infinity that is the universe we live in...fit to honor the One who made it all.

Square pegs don't fit in round holes, and evolution and creation cannot both be true. Some Christians have tried to bridge the gap. Bowing to the influence of Charles Darwin, some argue for theistic evolution and other approaches that allow God to stay in the background as natural selection does its thing. Today: more on the influence of a man whose teachings cannot be reconciled with those of the Bible.

Evolutionists believe in random chance. The bottom line: if there's no God, there's no one to judge our behavior. And a lot of people would like that just fine. Today: we begin a series on "The Darwin Delusion."

Most of us are creatures of habit. It's easy to fall back into old patterns of sin, even after we've sought God's forgiveness. Often we get tripped up in the race of life by returning to the detours of past behavior. Some of us are quite sure there's no way to break out of the cycle of sin, forgiveness, restoration, and back to sin. Today: we begin to find that way out.

The Bible says that when God forgives our sins, He "remembers them no more." How can this be, since God knows everything? After great spiritual failures we say with King David, "My sin is ever before me." So how can it not be before God? The answer lies in the concept of "covering." Today: hope for all who fear their sins on earth will never be forgotten in heaven.

Many who struggle with guilt find it returning to haunt them even after they've sought forgiveness from God. We need to realize that God will help us deal with sin's consequences once we reckon ourselves clean in His sight through Christ.

All around us are people with long-term health issues...issues that seem to have no resolution, short of divine healing. But when these people pray for healing, the answer appears to be an ongoing "no." They hear the verse, "my strength is made perfect in weakness," and wish, sadly, that their answer had been "here's the healing you seek." Are you disappointed with God today?

When Christians find themselves in a time of need, they naturally pray to God to provide. Sometimes the answer is "no..." How we then react is crucial. We must come to understand that even the "no" answers are still answers, and that God is fully aware of our needs and what is best for us. Today: why our faith can grow even when the answer is no.

We have a choice: these times can either make us resentful, or, they can increase our faith. Today: how to react and respond when God denies a petition we make to Him.

Habakkuk the prophet might as well have been writing in our day. Many of his observations belong on the front page. It's easy to feel trapped with no way out. Evildoers are having a field day and the foundations of the nation are being torn apart. Yet in the midst of turmoil, the prophet has a burst of faith that God is still in charge, just as He is for the USA.

Disaster was near, and it seemed God was not concerned. Today: lessons from a prophet on prayer.

We're truly creatures of the clock. To us, waiting means minutes, hours and days. But months and years? That's tough to take. When we pray for something, we hope for a quick response from God. But God has His own clock, not always in sync with ours. How do we handle prayers that, to us, are time critical, when the answers seem to be anything but? Today: Erwin Lutzer takes on this challenge.

To an outsider, hearing people speaking in unknown languages no doubt raises more questions than it does answers. And so, the Apostle Paul argued for clear teaching in known dialects. His explanation of the gift of tongues tells us why they were given, referring to a prophecy in Isaiah chapter 28, a prophecy at the heart of today's broadcast.

Today: Erwin Lutzer begins a careful study in First Corinthians 14, a study you won't want to miss.

Human love can fade when people grow tired of each other. Divorce statistics prove that human love is fleeting at best. Our motivation for service in the body of Christ, and for serving our marriage partners, must be found in what the Bible calls "agape" love, the love that comes from God. Only then can we endure life's tough times, and remain faithful to those we're committed to.

In the race of life, many people don't accept themselves as clay on the potter's wheel of God. They become slaves to their peers, who value appearances. But you can see yourself as a unique creation of God, and then, live in freedom.

Take one look at TV and it's clear that life at its best is reserved for "beautiful people"...people like Britney Spears. The price tags have been switched, and now, many assess their value based on how they look. This distorted view of self is damaging, especially to young people, including Christian young people. So, how do we counteract it? To find out, please listen with us.

At no time in history has the entertainment culture invaded the church more than it has today. How should a Christian respond? One way is by doing an honest evaluation of the entertainment we seem to be addicted to. Last time on Running to Win we took the content test and the control test. How are you doing so far? Well, the test is not yet over... it concludes during this broadcast, so listen with us.

It's amazing -- you can scan a hundred channels of cable TV and come to the conclusion that there's nothing on worth watching. Entertainment has sunk to new lows. To a large degree, movies, popular music and TV have become a wasteland. How can a Christian discern what to watch or what to listen to? Is it time now to toss out the large-screen TV?

In a healed tumor, or in a life changed from the inside out? Those with discerning hearts know that the power of the gospel far outweighs the power seen in miracles, signs and wonders. In both Testaments, the Bible has a lot to say about false prophets. Most of it is bad news for prophet and listener alike. Modern-day false prophets promise blessing without repentance, and prosperity for all who send a gift. Some TV preachers exploit the vulnerable and lead many astray. Today, how to tell when teaching is off the mark, and error has replaced truth.

When seeing the faults of others, our vision is 20/20. But it's 20/200 when focusing on our own faults. Jesus taught us to not judge a small splinter in someone else's eye without first removing the large wood beam from our own eye. That principle is found in Matthew chapter 7...and it's our focus on today's broadcast. So...how's your eye today?

Many fear that evangelical distinctives are fading away. It's high time for some straight talk about what can be done.

That weapon is the Sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, a weapon that can cut to the very heart of man, convicting of sin and birthing new life.

When they woke up one fateful morning, the citizens of Sodom had no idea that this would be their last day alive. Sodom's debauchery was relentless to the end. The brimstone was on its way as God mercifully sent two angels to rescue Lot's family before the smoke rose. Today: a story of compromise, and of a faith too weak to stand against evil...in short, "A Worldly Faith."

How do you feel when your prayers are not answered? Imagine this: how did Abraham feel when Sodom was destroyed? God had agreed to spare the city if ten righteous were found. Abraham thought he had a sure deal. Then the smoke rose. So, was his prayer worth it? Is ours, when answers never come? Today: a probing look at the real purpose of prayer.

When the sun rises each day, one thing that's certain is uncertainty: we do not know what a day may bring forth. Abraham came out of his tent one day and saw three men standing there...men who were not ordinary men. In his keen spiritual insight, he sensed he was in the presence of the Lord. As Hebrews 13 says, some "have entertained angels without knowing it."

The strife-torn Middle East has been a powder keg for millennia. Two groups claim ownership. Only one can be right. Genesis chapter 21 tells of the parting of the ways between the two sons of Abraham. Ishmael, father of the Arab nations, was cast out of the house along with his mother Hagar. God's clear intention was for Isaac to carry on the line of inheritance. Listen with us.

When God changes your name, it's always the mark of a new relationship with Him, out of which comes a new destiny. For 99 years he was known as Abram. Now, he will be called Abraham, the "father of many nations." God institutes circumcision to mark the newly expanded covenant. Ishmael is a teenager...Isaac is not yet born. We stand at a crucial point in history.

Sarah's idea to have Abraham father a promised heir through her maid has backfired. Anger and bitterness have replaced the peace that once reigned in their home. Hagar runs away to escape the torment, only to find comfort from an unexpected place.

Sometimes, we second-guess God. Knowing what His will is, we may try to engineer circumstances to bring it to pass. That's what Abraham did when God said he would have numberless offspring. Since his wife was past childbearing, he slept with their Egyptian maid Hagar. The result: the present Arab-Israeli conflict. Today: what to do when faith doesn't seem to square with reality.

Most legal covenants between two parties require both to be faithful to the promises they have made to each other. But in Genesis 15, God makes an unconditional covenant with Abraham. God says He will do what He promises...no matter what. Now that's a secure promise. Today: why that covenant means that the work of Jesus is all that's needed for a believer to gain eternal life.

In Genesis 15, God promises Abraham many offspring, more than the stars in the heavens, and pledges to give them much of the Middle East. Now that's something really big. Today: God's guarantee of a land and a people to bring forth the Redeemer.

Life's all about choices: deciding who to follow, and who to turn away from. Abraham and Lot both made their choices. Lot chose to ally with the King of Sodom, to his eventual ruin. Abraham paid homage to the King of Salem, Melchizedek, priest of God Most High. From that choice has flowed blessing to the entire world. What will your choice be?

The book of Genesis tells of beginnings: of creation, of the Fall, and of God's intent to provide a Redeemer through a nation of His choosing. Abraham's faith was tested over and over, and today, we'll see Abraham victorious in battle, and generous when facing another man of God.

Our culture says "look out for number one." Most of us assume that number one is "me." But wise believers know better. Abraham lets his nephew Lot pick the land he wants and agrees to take what's left over. Like candy before a baby, the offer is too good for Lot, who quickly chooses the best even though it would lead to ruin. Today: learning that God gives His best to those who leave the choice with Him.

When your life's on the line, most people would say lying is fine. After all, what good are you dead? That was Abraham's dilemma. To save his skin, he tells Egypt's Pharoah that his wife is his sister. Abraham's journey of faith hits an early snag as he tries to out-maneuver the Egyptians rather than trust God. The result? He got kicked out of Egypt. What lessons can we learn?

Abraham was chosen by God to leave the comforts of Ur of the Chaldees and journey to a land he'd never seen. His nice house became a tent, as he came face to face with challenges he'd never expected. Today: Abraham's faith is tested for the first time.

People make promises all the time and break them. New Year's resolutions are prime examples of broken promises. But when God makes a unilateral promise, you can take it to the bank. God chose Abraham, telling him that all the earth would be blessed through his posterity. And yet Abraham would only ever see that promise fulfilled through the eyes of faith.

"The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." In the case of Abraham, that journey began as a walk of faith. Before there was a Bible, before even an Old Testament, God called a man out of Ur of the Chaldees and promised to make of him a great nation. Seeing that promise fulfilled required great faith. Abraham found himself facing a lifelong journey of trust in God.

In the end, some offended people will refuse reconciliation, and hang on to their hurts until their knuckles turn white. Letting go of past injustice seems, for many, to be the ultimate insult. After all, those injustices give these people their reason to go on fighting. Today: a call for all who hold their hurts dear to give them up, and to be healed of their anger.

What do you do when a fellow believer sins and will not repent? Jesus told us what to do: invoke church discipline. It's never easy to confront a sinning Christian, so Jesus gave us teaching on how and when to do the necessary task of bringing that brother back to repentance and fellowship. Today: a look at the end game of reconciliation: what to do when nothing else works.

No one ever said that reconciliation is easy. It can be very hard. But this is certain: reconciliation is necessary. It can take years to form the deep divisions that keep families and former friends apart. And it may take time to heal those wounds. Today: we'll learn from the teachings of Jesus the steps to take to seek real reconciliation and find it.

Jesus never complained when He suffered. So why do we haul fellow believers into court when we think we've been cheated? Maybe it's too many courtroom shows on TV. We think we can get justice from unbelieving judges. In reality, God wants us to get our justice from His hand. Today: why it's better to suffer wrong than to tarnish the name of Jesus in a court of law.

It's almost fashionable to sue someone these days. Court dockets are full as people demand payback for injustice. Sadly, too many of these cases involve Christians, in clear violation of the New Testament. The Apostle Paul has some pointed words for those of us who'd like nothing better than to stick it to a fellow believer in court. Get set for some counter-cultural teaching, and by all means, stay with us.

"I just wish he'd stop it!" When you're under constant attack, you cry out for God to intervene, to end the long misery. When God deposed King Saul, David was anointed to be king of Israel. Well, Saul didn't go quietly. Instead, he pursued David with spears for ten years. So, what lessons was God teaching David, and perhaps, you and me?

Sometimes family feuds run for centuries. Generation after generation nurses the old grudges that keep people apart. But the cycle can be broken. Forgiving others for great wrongs dissolves years of hatred in mere moments. That's what happened when Joseph forgave his jealous brothers for selling him as a slave. Today: one of the most unforgettable episodes in all of the Bible.

No one likes lukewarm food or drink. Hot or cold is much better. Jesus said as much when evaluating a local church. He had strong words for the lukewarm Laodicean church in Revelation chapter three. But his tough love included a gracious offer for a way for them to regain their lost fervor. His rebuke and chastening would lead to renewal and power...for them, and for us.

Some Bible scholars see a progression as Jesus evaluates seven successive churches in the book of Revelation. They see the passing of history, with each church representing an era of time. If so, we may be in the last era, part of a church Jesus says he will spew out of his mouth. Is your church spiritually hot, or, like the one at Laodicea, merely lukewarm?

Every Christian longs to hear "well done" when he or she stands before Jesus one day. The same applies to the local church. Jesus addressed seven local churches in the book of Revelation. Often his words were sharp. But to one church, they were glowing. Today, we'll see why this church was praised, and how our churches today can hear those same words of commendation.

Moral laxity is pervasive in our culture, and sadly, in many of our churches. We don't take sin seriously anymore. We've gotten so used to free grace that we assume sin is really OK. We hear, "Just ask God to forgive you...all will be well." However, Jesus takes a much sterner view of moral sin in Revelation chapter two. His command for us to repent of it is needed now more than ever.

New Christians often have a radiant love for Jesus. Sadly, as time passes, that love sometimes cools. In the first century AD, Ephesus was a major city along the coast of what is now Turkey. Acts 18 tells of Paul's founding of its local church. Later, Jesus commended the Ephesian church, and then chastised them for leaving their first love. What would he say about your church?

Seven local churches in what is now Turkey each received a personal word from Jesus. These words tell us what he thought of those churches, and, by implication, what he thinks of our churches today. His words will sometimes commend, and sometimes sting.

At Emmaus, the resurrected Jesus walked with disciples so dejected, so sorrowful that they did not even recognize Him. Their dreams shattered, they only sought escape from their pain. But their hearts were strangely warmed by this passerby. Inviting Him to dinner, they found themselves face to face with the One they loved, but never really understood.

Early on, the disciples of Jesus argued over who would sit with Him in the kingdom. But when Jesus died, their dreams died. Their best-laid plans were in ruins. For some, the best thing to do seemed to be to simply walk away and forget those three wonderful years with Christ. Today: how the resurrected Jesus revived their dreams, and, how He can revive yours. Stay with us.

As banks fail and governments scramble to point blame, many people have serious doubts that anyone knows what they're doing. As we think of the resurrection of Jesus, we remember a doubting disciple who needed solid evidence before believing his Master was really alive. Jesus then showed him his wounded hands and side, saying, "Blessed are those who have not seen, and yet have believed."

When we think of Palm Sunday, we think of adoring crowds cheering a King. We don't tend to think of a cursed fig tree. But just one day after riding into Jerusalem, Jesus did indeed curse a fig tree for not bearing fruit. As we come to understand this event, it's clear that our bearing fruit is very important to God. What are the implications for you and me?

We read the ads in the paper: "sale ends Tuesday." But we know there will soon be another sale, and so we're not impressed. But some opportunities really do have a limited time window. Jesus presented Himself to the nation Israel when He entered Jerusalem on a donkey. They rejected Him, and the city was later destroyed.

Believers who run the race of the Christian life do not run alone. Christ ascended to bring many sons and daughters to glory. His ascension was "step one" in creating the church...the body of Christ on the earth, left here to bear witness to Him until His return. Only a few saw Jesus rise into the sky, but a multitude no man can number will see Him return.

Surprisingly, it was the key to founding the church: the body of Christ.

The same is true of Jesus and His resurrection...there is massive evidence that says He rose from the dead. Though naysayers may come and go, Christ's resurrection is as certain as any event in history.

Everyone knows a branch of grapes receives its sustenance from the vine it's connected to. No vine: no food. Jesus wants us to know where the real power has to come from as we run the race of life. His disciples were people of the land, and they could easily understand a word picture of fruit. Today, let's all learn a lesson on fruit bearing from a vine and its branches.

Jesus made many promises to His disciples in the Upper Room. One of them fills a need we all feel: the need for peace. Running the hectic race of life is a lot easier when we have peace within our souls. Peace is getting scarcer with increasing fears of economic collapse, and, as the world gets ever more hostile to Christ. But Jesus gives His peace to those who believe in Him.

Many Christians try to "go it alone," not realizing that within them lives the Holy Spirit, given to be our Helper. And we need help to run the race of life, and carry out the ministry God has for us. Our task requires power in the spiritual dimension, and that power comes from the Holy Spirit who was promised to all who believe in Jesus. As a Christian, you need never feel alone.

And the strength we need is more than natural energy. Jesus knew we would need supernatural strength, and promised to send the Holy Spirit to provide spiritual energy for every child of God even today.

At His time of greatest need, Jesus showed us how to pray...how to pray in a way that brings glory to God. In the Upper Room Discourse, Jesus seems to indicate that whatever we request, we can have. What are the conditions on answered prayer? Is it all tied to how fully we believe? Today, a look at what Jesus meant when He said, "Whatever you ask in my name, that will I do."

"Why" is the word that haunts us when things go wrong: a child dies...a job is lost...a reputation is slandered. None of us escape those times when we question God's purposes. Millennia ago a man named Job showed us how to ask why.

The Bible says that Satan can appear as an angel of light. Indeed, many follow demons when they think they're following God. History will climax in a great struggle of good and evil. The outcome is foreordained: Jesus will return and vanquish Satan, his demons, and all who followed them into believing what the Bible calls The Lie, a lie promoted by media luminaries such as Oprah Winfrey.

The ultimate future for the believer is indeed glorious, but not before the darkest period in world history has taken place. The Bible says that in the latter times some will depart from the faith, adopting the doctrines of demons. Modern-day teachers masquerade as believers, teaching a perverted gospel that has roots in the mind of Satan himself. As these days approach, what are we to do?

What does the future hold? Most prognosticators can't look very far into the unknown. At best, they can only guess. The Bible gives some clues as to what will happen in what are called "the last days." We read of false Christs and false prophets who will lead many astray into believing what the Bible calls The Lie. What is this Lie? To learn more, stay with us.

When people are dazzled by miracles, they'll believe almost anything. Modern-day miracle workers take quick advantage of that. You can even buy a book called A Course in Miracles. And since only God can perform a miracle, the next leap of modern faith is to realize that we, ourselves, are gods. Satan's great end-time Lie is in full bloom, on radio, TV, and across the internet.

"Do you promise to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?" In a court of law, truth is important. The New Testament teaches that in the end times, truth will give way to a lie...not just any lie, but The Lie. What that lie is, and how it's found adherents among the powerful in our media, is our focus for the next five Running to Win programs.

Tough times lie ahead for America, and many feel we're experiencing God's righteous judgment. Today, Erwin Lutzer points the way forward for those who want to see America, again, be blessed by God.

It is now a high wall, designed to keep God in a box while we as a nation do whatever we please. What is the inevitable outcome?

It's sad, but true: Christians are not immune to addictive behavior. Many are trapped in a web of deceit and bondage. Like those stuck in quicksand, runners in life's race cannot win if they're caught up in addictions of any kind. Today: we'll trace the roots of addiction, and then point the way toward freedom: freedom to live the abundant life God intended for His children.

After the 9-11 attacks, many Americans feared for their personal security, and hearts turned toward home. When in danger, every child craves the security of a father's embrace. What many Christians may not realize is the provision God has made for us as our heavenly father: that we can be sure of His care no matter what happens here on earth.

Some people think you can get rid of anger by hitting something inanimate, and "letting off steam." Trouble is: this doesn't work. Modern pop psychology is no match for the Bible in pinpointing the source of rage, or in helping us control the anger we all experience at one time or another. Today: we'll learn more about the causes of anger and how to handle it properly.

We've all seen them: people out of control with anger. They drive dangerously. They start fights. But where does this rage come from? Winning in life's race means getting anger under control...as in not reacting impulsively when someone cuts you off in traffic. Today: we'll probe the source of a destructive emotion, and, from the Bible, learn how to navigate the way out of habitual anger.

It's sad, but true: in our modern, enlightened culture, we no longer repent of our sins. Instead, we've learned to manage them. We're so deceived, we think we're OK as long as we keep our sins in balance, like a circus juggler. We do this, knowing full well that God is not fooled. Yet, we do it anyway. Today: the bitter fruits of deception.

From presidents to paupers, a common theme of the human race is self-deception. We lie, and what's more, we enjoy it. We're far from being the inherently good people our culture says we are. In fact, apart from certain restraints, we're capable of unspeakable evil. Today: another chapter in our journey of self-discovery, a journey in which we're finding out why we do what we do.

A carnival house of mirrors is a lot of fun. First you're fat, then thin, then you're both. But at the exit, the real you comes out. Many people are deluded, seeing themselves as they want to, not as they are. One cause of this can be refusing to listen to the honest critiques of others. Today: more lessons from James on self-perception: and, on what it means to hear correctly.

Jesus taught us to not worry. Yet many of us worry all the time. This causes stress, and erodes our spiritual power. We scan internet blogs looking for the latest threats to our freedom.....and yet Jesus told us to seek first His kingdom, and let Him handle our daily needs. If we truly do this, our anxieties will be gone. Want a new outlook, or re-directed focus?

If you had to sit for one hour in a totally quiet room, it might come as quite a shock. The silence would be deafening. There are times in running the race of life when we must shut out the noises we grow so accustomed to. Turn off the TV, the radio, and, yes, even the iPod. You'll find that what remains is the still, small voice of God. To learn more, stay with us.

The same is true with God. Worship cannot begin until we who seek to worship are clean inside. Today: join us for some lessons from the Bible on how to prepare our hearts for real worship.

It's become fashionable to consider worship a form of entertainment: the band plays, singers sing, and thus we "worship...." But real worship is not about how it makes us feel. Real worship is about our ascribing worth to God whether we feel like it or not. Today: some straight talk about what worship really is, and why it takes discipline to worship God properly.

Sometimes our prayers are not answered. Could it be that some of our well-meant prayers don't reflect God's agenda? There's a startling disconnect between the kinds of things the Apostle Paul prayed for, and the things most of us pray for. We focus on our physical needs, while God wants to work on our motivations. Today: learning to pray for the things God wants by praying His word back to Him.
