Host: Pastor Bob DeWaay
In this program we discuss the Emergent concept of being missional. We show that missional is totally different than the older ideas of mission or missionary. Missional contains no gospel preaching, is gleaned from pagans, and assumes that God has not spoken clearly and authoritatively.

This show is about how theologian Jurgen Moltmann’s use of the philosophy of the German philosopher Hegel underlies the theology of the Emergent Church. Bob explains what he learned from a trip to Chicago to hear Jurgen Moltmann speak at a large, Emergent conference. Moltmann’s key idea is that there is no future judgment.

We are beginning a radio series on Bob DeWaay’s book on the Emerging Church. We discuss the fact that underlying postmodern theology has invaded our educational system and that this thinking is not going to go away. We discuss how Emergent theology is based on their eschatology. We introduce the source of their eschatology: the German theologian Jurgen Moltmann.

In Acts 20 Paul charged the elders in Ephesus to “guard the flock” against wolves that bring false teaching. In Titus and Timothy Paul also gave elders the responsibility to teach true doctrine and refute false doctrine. In today’s evangelical world, very few churches have elders who are able to do this and the results are harmful to the Lord’s flock.

The Hebrew Christians were tempted to go back to the temple Judaism because it offered tangibility and excitement that meeting in the simple house churches of the time could not offer. But they are told to offer the sacrifice of praise, do good and be generous. We discuss how Christianity has often gone astray by neglecting simple Christian worship in exchange for something that appears more exciting.

The people addressed in the book of Hebrews previously had leaders who led them in a godly manner. This included teaching the truth faithfully and living it faithfully as well. They are also exhorted to go to Jesus "outside the camp." We discuss what that means.

Though the theophany at Sinai was awesome and tangible, those who come to Christ under the New Covenant have something much better. We have access by faith to glorious heavenly realities that we will one day experience first hand. There is warning to listen to God who is warning us from heaven.

We are instructed to pursue peace and sanctification because of the danger of the community being defiled by the presence of apostates. Esau is used as an example of such a person. We apply this to apostasy in the church today.

A Study of the Seven Churches in Revelation
by Bob DeWaay
We are awash in information about how to have healthy and successful churches. Rick Warren's Purpose Driven church movement claims to have trained many thousands of pastors around the world. The churches who most successfully copy Rick Warren’s pattern are honored with a "Church Health Award." Shall modern technocrats like Rick Warren set the standards for what is pleasing to God in a local church or should Jesus Christ Himself set these standards?

Jesus, as the head of the church, will ultimately judge His church. He gave us the seven inspired messages to the seven churches so that we might know what He commends and what He condemns.

by Bob DeWaay

The Emergent Church confuses many people because it refuses to be defined. Bob’s new book cuts through this confusion and shows that certain key ideas unify and define the movement. Those ideas have to do with an eschatology that claims the world is heading toward paradise, not judgement.
