Oscar Wilde once asked, "How else but through a broken heart may Lord Christ enter in?" Pride, or self-importance, is the basis of every sin. God wants us to be humble and tells us in Matthew 23:12 "whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted" and in Matthew 18:4, "Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven."
Before we can minister to others, we must first allow God to minister to us. We need to acknowledge our sinfulness and humble ourselves before God - allowing Him to enter through a broken heart. God will not deny a broken heart and a contrite spirit! Let's not give pride the upper hand, but place it on the altar of sacrifice. Come to Him, just as the woman with the alabaster box, humble and giving the Lord the thing He wants most - our heart.
"While He was in Bethany at the home of Simon the leper, and reclining at the table, there came a woman with an alabaster vial of very costly perfume of pure nard; and she broke the vial and poured it over His head." Mark 14:3
